“Sgt. Hog’s D5890 Mail Call”
7th Edition, 15 January 2018

December and the Holidays have come and gone in a flash.  I continue to catch up on my club visits and am now down to only 4 clubs remaining.
Debbie and I hope that you and your families had a wonderful Holiday Season.  We wish for you and yours a joyous and prosperous New Year.
Due to the Holiday season there was not a lot going on in December, so this will be a short version newsletter.  Debbie and I did attend many Club Christmas and Holiday parties.  We thank all the clubs that invited us to join them.  We couldn’t make all the parties.  We certainly enjoyed the ones we did attend.

We all remember that Zone Institute was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey.  However, GETS Training (Governor Elects Training Seminar) still had to take place for District Governor Elects and District Governor Nominees.  That training was reconvened at Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston Illinois the weekend of December 8th-10th.  Debbie and I attended.  It was our first time to visit Ri headquarters.  We had a wonderful time and got to tour RI headquarters.  If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend you make the trip one day.

Harvey recovery efforts continue in our district.  To that end, our District Disaster Recovery Committee headed up by PDG Rhonda Walls Kerby, distributed nearly $124K to 16 of our clubs for Harvey Recovery projects throughout our District.  This is the money donated to our District 5890 Charities, Inc. account from Rotarians throughout the world.  I can think of no better example of People Of Action Making A Difference than all of these Harvey recovery projects being done by our district clubs and Rotarians.  Thank you all for Making A Difference.

We had a fantastic District Foundation Seminar at the Second Baptist Church on Saturday, January 6th.  The seminar featured three guest speakers from our clubs.  Each spoke about their personal experiences with Global Grants and how to make the process work for you.  Dr. Donald Nino from North Shore, Stan Galinski from Space Center and Ron Duncan from Brazos River all gave us their insight into how to best use the Global Grant process.

Our District Conference is just around the corner.  We’ll be in San Antonio at the Hyatt Regency on the Riverwalk April 26th-28th, 2018.  Register for the conference and your room on our district website.  Our District Golf tournament is on Friday, March 23rd at 8am at Tour 18.  Registration and further information will be available on our district website shortly.

Our Foundation Dinner is set for 6pm Sunday, February 18th at the Holiday Inn located at 1112 Eldridge Parkway, Houston, 77077.  More information will be on our district website shortly.

Rotary night at the Rodeo is set for Thursday, March 8th with Luke Bryan as the entertainer for the evening.  Full ride tickets which include dinner and the rodeo are $65 each while meal only tickets are $35 each.  Tickets will be made available shortly.

Remember to tell your club’s story here in our District newsletter.  Send your article with pictures to Bill Davis at billd@kingwoodcable.com.

Yours in Rotary Making A Difference,
DG Bill
